SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) released a statement today in support of Assembly Bill 828 (AB 828) by Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco). He is a joint author of the measure, which imposes a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures on residents facing economic hardship due to COVID-19:
“The impacts of this pandemic have been substantial, especially for our working families and those whose incomes have been diminished because of the coronavirus outbreak. The legislative measures we take need to be more than just simply prioritizing public health—we need to do everything we can ensure that people who are already struggling to make ends meet do not have to worry about stability in their housing. Being able to focus on taking care of yourselves and your loved ones without facing the undue stress of being evicted from your home during this challenging time should be a basic human right for all, not just a privilege for some.”
