Assemblymember Ash Kalra Releases Statement on DACA and Denounces Actions by President Trump

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) released the following statement in response to the decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

President Trump’s announcement to end DACA is reckless and a disgrace to American values. California has not, and will not, stand idly by while this Administration attacks our immigrant communities. President Trump’s inhumane action punishes members of our community who came here as children, many as infants, who have grown up here, and have come to know and love this country as the only home they have ever known.

They are the embodiment of the American dream.

I will continue to work closely with my colleagues to protect the safety and well-being of all Californians by ensuring that state and local resources are not used to unfairly deport and separate families. We must unite to support legislation that fights back against the current administration’s efforts to undo decades of humane immigration policies, such as SB 54 by Senator Kevin de León to prohibit state and local law enforcement officials from enforcing federal immigration law and AB 21, a bill I am authoring to ensure that all students, regardless of their immigration status, may continue to take advantage of the education to which they are entitled.
