Assemblymember Chu's Statement on AB 22

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

SACRAMENTO, CA – AB 22 by Assemblymember Rob Bonta has caused anxiety among Vietnamese immigrants and refugees throughout the state.  Assemblymember Bonta and I have been discussing the fate of AB 22.  Through these conversations, the bill now will not move forward in its current form.

“I recognize the visceral reaction from the Vietnamese community and empathize with their concerns,” says Assemblymember Chu. “Many of my constituents escaped extreme hardship and oppression from their home countries in search of freedom and opportunities.  As a state representative, I am committed to protecting and enhancing those virtues that California and the U.S represent.  I thank Assemblymember Bonta for working with me and listening to my concerns in addition to those from the Vietnamese communities statewide.”

Assemblymember Kansen Chu represents the 25th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Fremont, Milpitas, Newark, Santa Clara and San Jose.
