I know COVID-19 has caused extreme hardships on small businesses everywhere. I am a firm believer that small businesses are the backbones of our community and I have been working to get necessary resources to those struggling. As part of my effort, I will be hosting a virtual townhall on July 31, 2020 with State Treasurer Fiona Ma and representatives from our local Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) to discuss the resources available to small business owners impacted by COVID-19. Please join us to learn about available grants and loans for small businesses and have your questions answered.

COVID-19 has caused many hardships on families and food insecurity is on the rise. California offers assistance programs to help families buy groceries and keep their families fed. I will be hosting a virtual town hall on July 22, 2020 in partnership with the California Department of Social Services, Santa Clara County Social Service Agency, and Alameda County Social Service Agency. Dear Friend,

I hope you are all well and safe. Last month, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statewide order that requires Californians to wear face coverings in public indoor spaces and outdoors when social distancing is not possible. Research shows that wearing a face covering helps limit the transmission of COVID-19 and I encourage all of you to wear a face covering whenever you are outside your home in a public place. Because of the high demand for masks and hand sanitizers, I am hosting a free mask and hand sanitizer distribution event in the parking lot outside my District Office in Milpitas. Stop by and get 10 free masks and 2 hand sanitizers per household at:

Assemblymember Chu’s District Office
1313 N. Milpitas Blvd, Milpitas, CA 95035
Parking Lot

Friday, July 17
4 pm to 6 pm

Masks and Hand Sanitizers will be given on first come, first served basis. When you arrive at the parking lot to pick up, please stay in your car and volunteers will hand masks and hand sanitizers to you while maintaining physical distance.

I also encourage you to get tested. You can find information about testing sites from your health care provider and at the websites for the Alameda County Public Health Department, the Santa Clara County Health Department, and the California Department of Public Health.

COVID-19 crisis has affected us all. As we move through this pandemic, we must navigate unprecedented circumstances, and may find ourselves struggling to adapt to the “new normal.” Many of us struggle to cope with the symptoms of increased stress, loss, financial anxiety, and other challenges brought on by the pandemic. We must continue to prioritize our mental health as we transition out of quarantine and be proactive in preparing for the challenges that lie ahead.

I am co-hosting a discussion on mental health with Supervisor Cindy Chavez on Tuesday, May 28, 2020 at 6 p.m. We will be sharing information about local resources available for mental health support. You can submit questions in advance or during the event at http://tiny.cc/MHQA. Please see below information on how to tune in to the event. I hope you can join us!
